What is S.O.A.P. Journaling?

S.O.A.P. is a daily Bible journaling method, created by Pastor Wayne Cordeiro, for applying God’s Word to your life in a practical way.

God is talking with us daily. The S.O.A.P. journal will help us to capture and catalog the lessons God teaches in a way that will help us to grow! It will encourage and remind us daily that God waits for us. Our faith will grow as we get to know God more. This method of journaling will help add the substance of faith to your life. It is not just knowing things that builds our faith. It is doing them! It is applying the lessons God is teaching us that brings a blessing. – Wayne Cordeiro

HOW DO I DO S.O.A.P. JOURNALING?

1. Start with your Bible, journal (any kind of notebook will do), and pen.

2. Go to the S.O.A.P. Reading Plan.

3. Before you start to read, ask God in prayer how to apply the reading to your life today.

4. Read today's readings. As you are do, underline or write down anything that impresses you as a personal word to be applied. When you read with an open heart, God will give you words of encouragement, direction, and correction.

5. When you are through reading, go to your journal and begin to SOAP as follows:

  • S for Scripture

Open your Bible to your reading for the day. When you read the Bible, pay attention to what verse or phrase really stands out to you. Feel free to underline in your Bible as you read; this will help you identify meaningful verses or phrases. Once you identify what stands out the most, write it down.

  • O for Observation

What do you think God is saying to you in this Scripture? What do you think it means? Don’t worry about getting it exactly right. Ask the Holy Spirit to teach you and reveal Jesus to you.

  • A for Application

Personalize what you have read, by asking yourself how it applies to your life right now. Perhaps it is instruction, encouragement, a new promise, or corrections for a particular area of your life. Write how this Scripture can apply to you today.

  • P for Prayer

This can be as simple as asking God to help you use this Scripture, or it may be a greater insight on what He may be revealing to you. Remember, prayer is a two way conversation, so be sure to listen to what God has to say, then write it down.

remember

S.O.A.P. journaling is designed to serve you in your growth with Christ. You can be flexible in how you use it, but be sure to develop a healthy habit of spending time daily with the Lord.
